Bubblemakers

The PADI Bubblemaker is a specially supervised program for children as young as 8 years old. The PADI Bubblemaker experience program introduces basic scuba information and allows participants to scuba dive, under direct supervision, in either a pool or in pool-like conditions that do not exceed 6 feet in depth.

After participating in experiences like PADI Bubblemakers, many children want to continue their scuba diving adventures. They can do this by becoming a PADI Seal. The PADI Seal Team program is specially designed for children as young as 8 years old, is conducted in a pool, and all activities (Aquamissions) are limited to depths not exceeding 12 feet. Aquamissions are games that allow children to learn and practice scuba skills while learning about dive theory and underwater science. Children become PADI Seal Team Members by completing five Aquamissions. PADI Seals are qualified to participate in additional pool-limited Aquamissions that provide fun, action-based experiences that teach the principles behind various dive activities such as aquatic life identification, search and recovery, wreck diving, and underwater photography. PADI Seal Team Members meet new friends, gain enpowerment, learn to become more self sufficient, use their imagination, and just have fun. When PADI Seals are old enough, their scuba experience may, under certain circumstances, be credited toward PADI junior diver certification.

Junior Entry-Level Courses

Children as young as 10 years old may enroll in diver courses. All PADI junior diver courses are subject to depth and supervisory limits both during training and after certification. Junior divers can not participate in certain PADI Specialty Diver programs. PADI Junior Divers who are 10-11 years old are certified to dive when accompanied by a parent, PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or Instructor and dive depths are limited to 40 feet. PADI Junior Divers who are 12-14 years old are certified to dive when accompanied by a certified adult diver and depths are limited to 70 feet.

The PADI Junior Scuba Diver course teaches student divers, as young as 10 years old, the fundamental knowledge and skills that are needed to scuba dive while under the direct supervision of a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or Instructor. Successful completion of the course results in a pre-entry level PADI certification. PADI Junior Scuba Divers are not certified to dive without professional supervision and dive depths are limited.

The PADI Junior Open Water Diver course is designed to develop the knowledge and skills required to plan and conduct open water, no decompression dives. Student divers as young as 10 years old may enroll in this course. The course has three primary components - knowledge development, confined water training, and open water training. The knowledge development portion of the course covers topics such as dive science, dive techniques, dive planning, and scuba equipment. The confined water training portion of the course allows the student divers to apply their knowledge by learning and practicing basic diving skills in a pool or pool-like environment. Finally, the open water training portion of the course provides student divers with a supervised transition to diving in the open water environment. Upon certification as a PADI Junior Open Water Diver, divers 10-11 years old are certified to dive when accompanied by a parent, PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, or Instructor and dive depths are limited to 40 feet. PADI Junior Open Water Divers who are 12 years of age or older are certified to dive when accompanied by a certified adult diver.

Junior Advanced Courses

The PADI Adventures in Diving program allows divers to gain dive experience while pursuing individual interests and advanced dive education. The program consists of participation in individual Adventure Dives. Although other Adventure Dives may be added, possible Adventure Dive options include the following: Altitude, AWARE-Fish Identification, Boat, Deep, Dive, Diver Propultion Vehicle, Drift, Dry Suit, Multilevel/Computer, Night, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Search and Recovery, Underwater Naturalist, Underwater Navigation, Underwater Photography, Underwater Videography, and Wreck. Each Adventure Dive has two components - knowledge development and open water training. The knowledge development portion of each Adventure Dive covers information to safely complete the dive and specialized information related to that particular type of diving. Under certain circumstances, Adventure Dives may count as the first dive of the related PADI Speciality Diver course.

The PADI Adventures in Diving program has two PADI Junior Diver certification options - PADI Junior Adventure Diver and PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver. Students must be at least 12 years old and hold the PADI Junior Open Water Diver (or equivalent) rating to enroll for either certification.

    * To earn the PADI Junior Adventure Diver certification, divers must complete any three Adventure Dives. The maximum depths of training dives are limited to 70 feet. For divers 12-14 years old, PADI Junior Adventure Diver certification cards indicate that the Junior Diver must dive with a certified adult.

    * To earn the PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver certification, divers must complete the Deep Dive, Underwater Navigation Dive, and three additional Adventure Dives. The maximum depths of training dives are limited to 70 feet. For divers 12-14 years old, PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver certification cards indicate that the Junior Diver must dive with a certified adult.

The PADI Junior Rescue Diver course develops the knowledge and skills to help prevent and manage dive emergencies. In the knowledge development portion of the course, students cover topics such as self rescue, managing diver stress, first aid equipment/procedures, emergency management, and common equipment function/problems. In the open water training portion of the course, students learn and practice techniques such as assisting tired and panicked divers, missing diver procedures, responding to conscious and unconscious divers, and first aid for pressure-related accidents. To enroll in the PADI Junior Rescue Diver course, you must be at least 12 years old and hold the PADI Junior Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent) rating. To be certified as a PADI Junior Rescue Diver, successful completion of the Emergency First Response course or a sanctioned CPR/First Aid course within the past 24 months is required. For divers 12-14 years old, PADI Junior Rescue Diver certification cards indicate that the Junior Diver must dive with a certified adult.
